Today, we celebrate an amazing man, who without, Ford might have never been known. On July 30, 1863 Henry Ford was born in Greenfield Township, Michigan.
At 15, Ford’s father gave him a pocket watch, which he learned to take apart and reassemble and became known as a watch repairman at a young age. At 16, Ford left home to take an apprenticeship as a machinist in Detroit where he learned to operate and service steam engines, and would begin studying bookkeeping.
In 1891, he began working as an engineer with the Edison Illuminating Company and after two years, was promoted to Chief Engineer where he had enough money and time to begin his experiments with gasoline engines and gasoline vehicles. After being introduced to and encouraged by Thomas Edison, Ford built a second vehicle and being backed by William H. Murphy, Ford founded the Detroit Automobile Company on August 5, 1899; but the company shut down in January 1901.
In 1903, Henry Ford established the Ford Motor Company and introduced the Model T in October of 1908. And from then on out, Ford was known for the inexpensive manufacture of his automobiles which were made by skilled workers who earned steady wages.
Ford died on April 7, 1947 at the age of 83 in Dearborn, Michigan, but his legacy will live forever. Happy 150th birthday Henry Ford, from everyone at Pfeiffer Plainfield Used Cars.
