At least one thing can be said about Michigan: there is no shortage of beautiful views all year long. If you’re eager to check out the best Michigan has to offer without having to get out of your car, be sure to check out these scenic Michigan summer drives that will have you falling in love with the open road (and the surroundings) all over again.
Arcadia to Frankfort via M-22
You can’t go wrong with M-22 when it comes to memorable views, but the stretch between Arcadia and Frankfort is particularly nice during the summer. This route will take you past the famous Sleeping Bear Dunes, several picturesque small towns, and unbeatable views of the Lake Michigan shoreline.
If you stay on Alpine Avenue North of Grand Rapids, the traffic eventually fades away and you’ll be treated to some beautiful rolling hills and stunning river valley scenery. For the adventurous day tripper, there are plenty of fun things to discover in historic Lake County and along the Pine River.
If you have the time to head even further North, the Upper Peninsula offers arguably the most rustic and incredible natural views in the entire state. US 41 is an especially unforgettable drive. Meandering along the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula, this route affords excellent views from the road, though there is plenty to enjoy along the way, making it a great weekend getaway trip.
